Shift Resources

SHIFT RESOURCES

A system only shifts when the resources - money, technology, knowledge, reputation - flow through it in a fundamentally different way. Radically restructuring how resources move through the system and how they are distributed enables new ways of working to emerge that we might not have considered before.

Questions to consider asking:

Current: Map how resources currently flow through the system (or part of the system) you are exploring.

  • As a team how would you define resources in this part of the system? Is this money, people, capability, knowledge, technology, facilities, assets, investors?
  • Who are the resources connected too? Can visualise or map how resources flowing/through/out this part of the system?
  • How are the way resources connected and flowing impacting those affected by crisis and conflict?

Questions to consider asking:

Future: Explore how resources need to flow differently to achieve a change in the system or better meet your purpose. How does changing how resources flow enable new practices to emerge?

  • What are the opportunities for change? How would you change or alter the flow of resources/ access to them to help achieve your vision or purpose for this part of the system?
  • What are our ideas for how resources might be different in this part of the system?
  • What ideas or experiments necessary for system change, related to resources, could you test out? And what would we be seeking to learn or observe as a result? > Use the Portfolio of experiments and Innovation process tools
